y11 gcse core curriculum
project 1 : still-life (fine art)
In Year 11 students start are given half a term to improve the ‘Still-life Fruit’ project. There are effectively 2 to work on each of the four assessment objectives below. During this time students can normal improve project work by one or two level from Year 10.
The four assessment objectives and project components are;
· Initial Preparatory work
· Artists’ research and investigations
· Development
· Final art work
(each assessment objective is given equal weighting)
Work Produced:
Three pieces of initial preparatory work (including photography) and associated sketchbook work
Artist research and investigations
Two pieces of development work and associated sketchbook work
Final art work and associated sketchbook work

project 1a & 1b : still-life & landscape (photography)
In Year 11 students start are given half a term to improve either the ‘Reflections & Refraction’ project or the ‘Fine Art Urban Landscape’ project (some students even improve and submit both projects. There are effectively 2 to work on each of the four assessment objectives below. During this time student can normal improve project work by one or two level from Year 10.
For each project students produce 3 -4 photoshoots (often in Year 11 students will produce a fifth photoshoots) using appropriately selected source material and develop work using Adobe Photoshop and Lightroom. They also investigate artists and photographers looking at both photography and editing skills.
The four assessment objectives and project components are;
· Initial Preparatory work (general research and photoshoots)
· Artist/photographers research
· Development
· Final photographic work
(each assessment objective is given equal weighting)
Work Produced:
Initial preparatory work to include 3 -4 photoshoots and general topic research
In depth artist/photographer research and investigations
Development and editing work
Final photographic work
Work will be presented in Powerpoint format (approx. 50 pages) as well as 3-5 final printed images

project 2 : personal choice (fine art & photography)
In Year 11 students start are also given half a term to improve the the second project where students had a ‘Free Choice’ project choice in Year 10. Again during this time students can normal improve project work by one or two level from Year 10 and the four assessment objectives are the same as Project 1.
Work Produced:
The work produced will follow the same format as earlier project work
examination project
In Year 11 students spend the first term improving and developing work from Year 10 in readiness for the end of December coursework deadline (60% of the overall GCSE qualification).
Students receive the GCSE examination paper at the beginning of January in Year 11. The paper normally contains seven questions/topics, one of which students must use as a starting point to produce an ‘examination project’ (40% of the overall GCSE qualification).
Work produced:
The examination project work produced will follow the same format as earlier project work
Students have from January to May to complete all Initial Preparatory work, Artists research and Development work before sitting a 10 hour examination, during which they must produce a final piece/response
